our story
about us
The ‘Pink Cricket Restaurant’ was established in 1938. Located across Main Street in those days, Deward Shaffer ran a local watering hole that also served sandwiches, burgers, and famously sold homemade pizzas to go. Since there were no pizza boxes in those days, he’d put them on a piece of cardboard and slide them into a paper sack.
The Pink Cricket moved to its current location at 929 East Main Street in November of 1965 where it has been a community staple ever since. Previous owners William Rymer and Brad & Angie Bodamer kept the Cricket rolling from the sixties to the turn of the new century when it was purchased by the Hoch family. Paul Sr. and Paul Jr., father and son, have continued the tradition of the Pink Cricket since 2000, with the younger Paul and his wife Monique operating it until 2023. In late 2023 Pink Cricket was purchased by Larry Tipton to keep this Lancaster icon going strong. It is Larry's mission to continue to build upon the great tradition of Pink Cricket and to continue to use the finest ingredients available, treat customers and employees like family and give back to the community.
It is still as important to us now as it was more than 80 years ago, that everything that we put into our products is as authentic now as it was then. We still roll our own dough with a rolling pin, make our own sauce daily, use 100% pure aged provolone cheese, and bake our pizzas in the old stone deck ovens that came with the building. We make our own salad mix daily, and our vinaigrette is homemade too. We cut our own veggies and slice most of our own meats. We source the highest quality fresh meats to craft our burgers, sandwiches and dinners.
We still believe there’s a place for the neighborhood haunt. Where strangers don’t remain strangers for long and the company is always welcome. So, come join our friends and family at the one and only Pink Cricket Restaurant. Doin’ It Great Since 1938.

“We stopped for lunch and sat outside on the Beautiful back patio. Amber was our waitress and she was EXCELLENT! We had wings, burgers, and pretzel bites. Everything was fresh, hot and delicious! We are so glad we decided to stop! Thanks! Good Luck with the new Patio - its great!”
